originated from the Devices Center, which was founded in 1985 as a school-wide workplace to support the solution of those projects that require experimental study of materials. For these purposes, the department is equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation for analysis of chemical composition in macro- and microvolume, phase composition and for studying the structure of metallic and non-metallic materials at all available levels of resolution. The devices are operated by highly qualified specialists in their field.
The department activities are oriented towards these areas
teaching mainly in the specialization of materials engineering and in some other specializations (physical engineering, engineering technology),
solving research projects at all levels, including international and national projects. Supporting scientific research projects include, for example, the following areas and materials:
progressive functional-gradient and nanostructured materials;
relationship between initial structure and mechanical properties of metallic materials at high strain rates;
promising biocompatible materials;
surface engineering;
structural stability of welded joints of chromium heat-resistant steels and their degradation during long-term operation;
experimental study of the structural stability of modern heat-resistant steels;
theoretical modeling of advanced materials with help of quantum-mechanical method and machine-learning
information system for research and development of materials and technologies of the Czech Republic;
cooperation with other universities, research institutes and enterprises, based on the use of instrumentation and qualifications of department staff;
preparation of expertise and expert opinions in the field of mainly metal materials and their processing and joining technologies, not only for manufacturing companies, but also for insurance companies, courts, etc.
