What we do
The activities of the Institute of Material Sciences and Engineering (Department of Metallic Materials, Department of Ceramics and Polymers, Department of Structural and Phase Analysis and Department of Mechanics and Design of Materials) include the following core directions and problems:
- perspective technology in the field of nanomaterials, surface treatment of metallic materials, material-technological issues and properties of aluminum alloys, advanced Mg-Li alloys and intermetallic alloys such as TiAl, NiAl, ADI cast irons;
- optimization of heat treatment including coating and preparation of protective thermal barriers;
- optimization of the chemical composition and properties of selected nickel alloys for the aviation industry;
- selected issues of preparation, properties and use of ceramic and composite materials;
- issues of optimal choice of dynamically loaded structural materials and their welded joints;
- selected questions of material-technological properties and the use of ductile cast iron, etc.
The connecting links for the mentioned directions of research are: laboratory equipment enabling a comprehensive approach, a high scientific and methodical level of experiments, analyzes and measurements, the possibility of deep interpretation of the original results.
Missing articles of comprehensively conceived scientific research are supplemented within the framework of cooperation with universities in the Czech Republic and abroad and with the institutes of the Academy of Sciences.
Pedagogical background in connection with long-term cooperation with industrial partners enables high-quality provision of specialized qualification courses in the field of metallography, structural and phase analysis, mechanical testing and non-destructive testing of materials.
What we offer
- Cooperation on scientific research and development in the above areas, including the development of advanced technologies at the laboratory and industrial level.
- Cooperation on projects using both the experimental equipment of the workplace and the erudition of academic staff as well as the possibility of comprehensive scientific research with close links to industrial partners and workplaces abroad.
- Material analyzes and phase analyzes and calculations, optimization of the microstructure of alloys, optimization of the microstructure of light metals, optimization of heat treatment, electron beam treatment, tests in condensation and corrosion chambers.
- Damage analyses, accident analyzes and expertise, fractographic analyses, operational degradation analyzes of materials, structural and chemical analyses, mechanical properties analyses, image analyses, EBSD analyses, x-rays. microanalyses, X-ray phase analysis.
- Courses and training in selected areas - technology, structural analysis, mechanical properties, etc.
